Pregnancy treatments and support at Studio57clinic

Despite a handful of expectant mothers flourishing gracefully through their trimesters with a skip in their step looking serene and at one with nature, the reality for most endure the backaches, the often unpleasant heavy feeling in your pelvis, water retention, foot pain, nerve pain, fatigue and general all over muscular discomfort. We treat between 3-5 pregnant ladies a week visiting us with aches and pains in their back, neck, pelvis, pubic area, legs and even feet and wrist. And although most mothers circum to believe that discomfort is quite normal, you'd be amazed what things we can do to help keep the final trimester as comfortable and enjoyable as possible!

Common symptoms of pregnancy

Pregnancy Trimesters certainly come with both physical and hormonal changes, here are some of the typical symptoms that we treat to help you remain comfortable.

Back & Pelvic Pain - During pregnancy, your body makes a hormone called relaxin that allows ligaments in the pelvic area to relax and the joints to become looser in preparation for the birth process. The same hormone can cause ligaments that support the spine to loosen, leading to instability and pain.
Pubic symphysis (DSP) - Pubic symphysis is a condition that causes excessive movement of the cartilaginous joint that sits between the pubic bones. As a result, because of a misalignment of the pelvis. ... SPD is associated with pelvic girdle pain and the names are often used interchangeably.
Carpal tunnel - If you have tingling, numb and painful hands during pregnancy, it's likely to be caused by carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). It happens when there is a build-up of fluid (swelling) in the tissues in your wrist.
Lymphatic drainage - Swelling is a normal part of pregnancy that is caused by this additional blood and fluid. Normal swelling, which is also called edema, is experienced in the hands, face, legs, ankles, and feet.  Despite this extra retention of fluid being part of the baby making process, lymphatic drainage can help reduce the swelling to help you keep more mobile.

Pregnancy Kinesiology Taping.

Whether first trimester or 'days to drop!' Studio57clinic has plenty of experience supporting 'mums to be'. We're huge fans of 'kinesiology taping' as it can help eliviate common postural pain associated with certain stages of pregnancy. There's plenty of things we can do to keep you comfortable (and reasonably sane!)

Although massage can deliver incredible results to reduce aches and pain, kinesio tape works really well to help support 'mothers to be' the other 167 hours of the week! This Youtube video demonstrates how we can reduce the level of pressure that the baby produces sitting in your belly! There are various levels of taping, but this one is a little gem!

The kinesio tape we use is Rock Tape, it's gentle yet strong, fully water proof so it can be worn in the bath or shower without losing it's integrity, and if applied correctly can remain effective for four or five days whilst carrying on typical pregnancy activities including sanding, sawing, waxing, painting, wallpapering, upholstering AND get a good nights sleep whilst wearing it!!

Get taught to apply it yourself

rock tape

If coming to see us at Studio57clinic, we'll teach you how to apply it yourself, we sell them in an array of colours and different sizes too.  If you are pregnant and havent used kinesiology tape before, always best to do a patch test prior to ensure that your skin is happy with it.
