Hove Prom Parkrun - Give It A Go!
With three parkruns and one on the way (Bevendean Down parkrun will be starting imminently after a full trial of the course on Sunday 24th January at 11.30am), Brighton & Hove certainly provides options for people looking to get healthy and have fun at the same time. And when we say people, we're talking everybody - all fitness levels, ages, shapes and sizes!
Hove Promenade Parkrun
Of the three parkruns currently available in Brighton & Hove, Hove Promenade (or 'Hove Prom' as it is affectionately referred to) is the most recent, launched back in July 2015. The timed 5k event happens every Saturday at 9:00am at Hove Lawns, Kingsway and as is the case for all parkruns costs nothing to join. All you have to do is register before your first run (you only ever have to do this once) and then take a print-out of your uniquely generated barcode to every parkrun (laminated keyring versions available!); by doing that, your visit gets logged each time (very useful for motivation purposes) plus you get your time sent to you after each event. That said, for the majority of participants, time really isn't the main reason for attending... parkrun is all about running for your enjoyment.
If you are worried about about being 'at the back of the pack', please don't! Hove Prom, as a relatively new parkrun, are actively looking for people who would be in the '40+ minutes' field who are prepared to come regularly and pave the way for people who like the idea of joining but worry that the course is too fast for them. They can be promised a friendly welcome and bags of enthusiastic support. Research shows that although the first time can of course be daunting, exercising in a social environment is for the majority of us the most fun & successful way of staying healthy.
Parkrun is entirely organised by volunteers and is always eternally grateful for people who want to show their support by giving a little back to the community. The new Bevendean Down parkrun has been promised some crucial start-up funding if parkrun provide a minimum of 20 volunteers at the Brighton Half Marathon on February 28th. Names are being collated via the Hove Prom team so if you are interested in helping do please email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Whatever your level of running, we urge you to consider trying the Hove Prom parkrun. Whether you run, jog or walk it is totally up to you. Whatever your level of fitness, support & smiles are guranteed; we at Studio57clinic are confident you will enjoy it immensely and return for more!
